<p>1420467 Lasers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 18 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34171/73 Heading H1C The resonator mirrors 16, 18, Fig. 4, of a gas laser bear against the crests of annular protrusions 7 integral with the ends of the laser tube 1, each protrusion including oppositely inclined intersecting surfaces 14, 15 the crest angle of which exceeds 170 degrees. The bore of the tube is narrower at the tube ends and the end corners are rounded as shown at 9. The mirrors include dichroic layers 17, 19. The tube, Fig. 1, has the protrusions and end bores formed by heating the ends while applying pressure through profile formers 2 which include tapered bore mandrels 4. The intersecting surfaces 14, 15 are ground on the protrusions by rotating the profiled tube between centres 10, Fig. 2, and using a grinding wheel 11 which is inclined by an angle of less than 5 degrees first in one direction and then in the other about an axis 13, each angle being with respect to a normal to the tube axis.</p> |
