The inner section of the cap (1) on the open side, accepting the lamp glass bulb (2) is of polygonal shape with rounded sides (4). The circular profile, abutting the polygon sides, corresponds to the profile of the glass bulb centering band. Preferably the cap profile is elastic, in order to match the greater diameter of the centering band. Typically the polygon is triangular (5) with three corners (4). At the corners may be strip-shaped ridges in axial direction of the cap. The cap is intended particularly for miniature incandescent lamps and can take care of manufacturing tolerances of the glass bulbs, while safeguarding always straight and coaxial fitting.
