The speed control of the motor vehicle has a telescopic section (39) incorporated in the throttle linkage, with the telescopic extension controlled by a servo motor (25) connected to the speed control. This monitors the speedometer (33) reading and modulates the linkage setting the maximum set speed is reached. The driver has normal manual control for the allowed speed range. As the maximum speed is approached the servo progressively operates so that the set speed is not exceeded.
