PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 2,3,4,5,6-PENTANOR-PROSTAGLANDINE DERIVATIVES

Bicyclic alpha -hydroxylactones of the formula in which the substituents are defined in Claim 1, are prepared by a stereoselective process. In this process, the lateral oxo group of corresponding lactones is reduced using a potassium trialkylborohydride. The resulting compounds can be used as intermediates in the preparation of prostaglandins.
