Mononuclear aromatic cpds., brominated in the nucleus and having max. degree of bromination, are prepd. by reacting a mononuclear aromatic cpd. (I), with Br2, by a process in which 2-20 wt. % of Br2 required, together with solvent and catalyst, is admixed with (I) together with the remaining 80-98 wt. % of Br2 to be charged, provided that the total Br2 quantity is 101-120 wt. % of the theoretically required Br2 quantity. The prods. are used as flame-retardants, esp. for polyester resins, lacquers, rubber and also as intermediates for other flame-proofing agents. The colourless bromination prod. is easily sepd. from reaction mixt. The mother liquor can be used for next charge, without purification. Side-reactions are prevented.
|
