Optical fibre cable has a centrally disposed tensile stress relieving cord made of synthetic fibres about which are disposed three glass fibres bundles spaced from one another by optical fibre conductors surrounded by silicone rubber sleeves and the radially outer peripheries of the sleeves and the bundles are held together by a sleeve made of tetrafluoroethyleneperfluoropropylene. Cable may be finished by covering it with spun thermoplastic or asbestos yarns or glass fibres. Fragile optical fibres constituting the cable used in telecommunications are adequately protected against excessive tensile stresses which lead to their rupture.
