Strips of flexible package material are sterilised by passing them continuously through a chanber, filled with wet or satd. steam (125-150 degrees C, 2.4-4.9 bar). Chambers preceding and following the steam chamber are filled with pressurised sterile air. This simplifies and speeds up the sterilisation of packaging material. Paper or cardboard cannot dry out in the water satd. atmosphere and do not crack.
