NOVEL TETRAHYDROFURANOL DERIVATIVE* ITS PREPARATION AND PERFUME CONTAINING THE SAME

NEW MATERIAL:5-Methyl-5-( 4-methyl-3-pentenyl )-tetrahydro-2-furanol of formula I and its tautomers. USE:Perfume having smell like Cape jasmine, it is used for soap or deodorant because of its natural smell. PREPARATION:The hydroformylation of linalool of formula III with carbon monoxide and hydrogen is conducted in the presence of a rhodium catalyst, as RhH(CO) (PRh3)3 or Cobalt catalyst as Raney cobalt, preferably in an amount of 1-10<3> times the molar quantities of tertiary phosphine to form the compound of formula II. The reaction temperature is 40-150 deg.C. The compounds I and II are in the tautomeric relationship, in which the equilibrium inclines toward compound I and the equilibrium ratio is over 9.
