PURPOSE:Using an alcoholic solution of cobalt tetracarbonyl anion as a catalyst, the reaction of carbon monoxide, an alcohol, and an organic halide is conducted in the presence of a basic substance to produce title compound in high yield without formation of by-product. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of a cobalt salt, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen is carried out in an alcohol as methanol to form a cobalt tetracarbonyl anion solution in alcohol. Using the solution as a catalyst, carbon monoxide, an alcohol, and an organic halide as methyl chloride are made to react in the presence of a basic substance as ammonia at 30-100 deg.C to give a carboxylic ester. The molar ratio of the catalyst to the organic halide is 1:1-1:400. EFFECT:The reaction mixture is eacy-to-handle since the catalyst is in solution from and the activity is very high. |
