PURPOSE:A new mutant mold is cultured, whereby L-serine is efficiently produced from glycine through fermentation process in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A mutant belonging to Pseudomonas, resisting O-methylserine, L-serine or glycine, and being capable of producing L-serine from glycine, such as Pseudomonas megarubescense AJ 11270, 11271 and 11272, Pseudomonas rhodomethylofaciens AJ 11265, 11266, 11267 is cultured in a medium containing glycine at a pH 5-9.25 at 25-35 deg.C for 2-8 days and L-serine accumulating in the culture medium is collected. The above mutant is produced by treating with N-methyl-N'- nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and can grow in a culture containing O-methylserine in which the original mold can not grow. |
