A number of springs are mounted in recesses formed in a frame supporting the sliding plate, which may carry a nozzle, and connected to the operating mechanism. One form of pneumatic spring, Fig. 2, comprises a cylindrical enclosure 14 closed at one end by a plate 15 having a plugged filling opening, and having a shaped top plate 16 which also forms a guide and a stop for a piston-rod 18. A metal bellows 22 is sealed at one end to the top plate 16, and is closed at the other by a piston 17 connected to the rod 18, the end of which engages the casing 8 of the sliding plate 9. Nitrogen or other inert gas under pressure in the enclosure outside the bellows provides the spring pressure, which increases with temperature. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the spring element comprises a gas filled bellows 27, the top plate 26 of the bellows pressing against the slide. A flexible cord 28 limits the expansion of the bellows. |
