The seat surface is divided into two adjoining seat halves (4A, 4B) joined at the back to the chair frame (1) with their front parts resting on height-adjustable supports. This allows the seat to be adjusted half at a time thereby relaxing the pressure alternately at the upper thighs. This enables a more comfortable long-distance journey, e.g. during air travel. The front part of the adjoining seat halves and their associated supports can be coupled by mechanical structural elements so that lowering the front part of one half raises the other seat half.
