The spark plug is used in a heating apparatus, and is external socket has a threaded outer end and an opening into the combustion chamber of the apparatus. The socket (10) has an aperture (13) from which leads an aeration tube (14) down into the combustion chamber (9). The tube opening lies in the direction of the combustion air stream. Preferably the socket opening is near the threaded end for the spark or glow plug. The aerating tube connection may be on the combustion air downstream side. The socket may have a port for connection of a hot air channel (6) to the ignition chamber (12). This arrangement prevents proper ventilation of the spark plug active end, resulting in excessive carbon deposition.
