The brake shoe linings (1) which are to be machined, are mounted on a turning arrangement (4) in which a rotating cutting tool (6) can be moved to and fro over the linings. The arrangement is enclosed in a housing (8), to which a suction line (12) is connected. The suction line runs tangentionally to a vertical drum, so that the air in the drum is swirled. Dust is flung from the swirling air and collects in the bottom of the drum. Air is sucked from the drum via a pipe which is mounted centrally in the drum.
