Separable, two-part expanding reed comprises multiple jointd reed elements mounted in two movable carriers having longitudinal screws to adjust the angle between reed elements which can be coupled and uncoupled by means of a linkage which joins together the first reed elements of each part. Reed expansion takes place w.r.t. a fixed linkage point in the centre of the coupled reed which lies beneath the first element of one part. After separation of the two parts, a substitute fixed point for the second part of the reed is provided by the insertion into the end of the second carrier of a connector plate carrying a shackle which is attached to the free end of the first reed element of the second part. Coupling and uncoupling of the two parts is rapid and simple, and longitudinal freedom of motion of the parts, whether coupled or uncoupled, is unrestricted. Expansion of the reed from the centre outwards eliminates the need for re-positioning of the carriers whenever the width is altered.
|
