Accelerator pump for fuel injected automobile engine - has separate pump chambers for separate engine cylinders for quick response

The pump has a separate working chamber (2a, 2b) for each engine cylinder. Each chamber has an inlet valve (3a, 3b) from a fuel reservoir (6) and a discharge valve (14a, 14b) to a delivery pipe (16a, 16b). A separate delivery pipe from each chamber each leads to the inlet connection (20a) of its own engine cylinder. The pipe discharges into the inlet close to the cylinder through a non-return valve (22a). This reduces the time lag between pumping and injection. A membrane (7) common to all the pump chambers provides the pumping action. It is depressed against springs (8a, 8b) by plungers (10a, 10b) operated in common (9) from the accelerator pedal.
