The stacking and storage system is for barrels etc. which can be rolled, and partic. for empty barrels used in the oil industry. The barrels are stored, being against each other in the horizontal direction, in a number of compartments one above the other and containing guide tracks. Movement-reversing components on alternate sides connect the tracks of adjacent compartments together. The tacks can be arranged to slope in the travel direction of the barrels, and constructed so as to damp out noise and movement. The reversing components can be formed by baffle plates.
