<p>In order to give signalling of the state of switches in an HV switch yard, an opto-mechanical sensor is used. It comprises a perforated plate (1, 2), the holes corresponding to a code. The perforations are scanned by fixed light guides, one set acting as transmitters of light and the corresponding set as detectors of the hole positions. The plate is attached to the switch operating mechanism The sensor information gives the On or Off position and an error signal if the plate is in a midway position. The arrangement is simple, robust, and free from electromagnetic or electrostatic interference.</p> |
