Diamino-1,3,5-triazinylstilbene compounds of the general formula where X is a group of the formulae and R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl or aralkenyl group or a heteroaromatic group, R2 has the same meaning as R1 and is additionally a (C1-C18)-alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl or carboxyalkyl group or a group of the formula -(CH2CH2O)n-R' where R' = hydrogen or (C1-C4)-alkyl and n is 1 or 2, W is oxygen or sulphur, and the rings A and B may contain still further non-chromophoric substituents, are useful as optical brighteners.
