A directly programmable electronic machine control device controls automatically a machine, esp. a machine tool, performing a sequence of program steps. It contains a program input device and storage and control units. It is improved w.r.t. similar devices to enable simpler and more rational accessing and execution of program sequences and sections of stored programs. A device responds to an input instruction in selecting an optical section of the total stored program which is to be executed. The section is defined by naming the first and last program set in it.
