In anticipation of calving a detector in a protective casing is inserted in the cow's vagina so it is expelled just before birth is due. The detector is temperature sensitive. Following expulsion from the cow, the difference in temperature between the interior of the animal and the ambient air causes the detector to emit a radio signal. The signal is picked up by a receiver and amplified to trigger an alarm signal in the farm house warning the farmer that calving is imminent.
|
