APPARATUS FOR REGISTERING PRINTED MATTER

Apparatus for applying printed matter to sheets. Feed means are provided for feeding sheets in seriatim to a printing location. At the printing location, printing means are provided which comprise a printing member and an engaging platen roller which form a nip therebetween. Gate means are positioned in front of the nip for blocking the sheets from entering therebetween and sensing means are provided for sensing the movement of a sheet approaching the nip to move the gate means out of the blocking position and for thereafter initiating rotation of the platen roller and the printing member to begin printing. In the preferred embodiment, the sensing means further comprises means for halting rotation of the platen roller and the printing member and for moving the gate means to the blocking position when the trailing edge of a sheet has passed the sensing means.
