FABRIC TREATING COMPOSITIONS AND ARTICLES

The invention disclosed herein provides fabric conditioning compositions comprising (a) water-insoluble perfumed starch particles characterized by: (i) an average particle size of from about 1.0 .mu.m to about 50 .mu.m; (ii) a shape having an anisotropy of from about 5:1 to about 1:1; (iii) a hardness of less than about 5.5 on the Mohs scale; and (iv) a melting point above about 150.degree.C.; and (b) a fabric softener, at a weight ratio of softener:perfumed starch particles of from about 20:1 to about 1:1. Also described are fabric conditioning articles especially adapted for use in an automatic clothes dryer, comprising (a) a fabric conditioning and odoriferous component comprising perfumed starch particles having the characteristics described above, which component is releasably combined with (b) a suitable dispensing means; this article preferably includes a fabric softener along with the perfumed starch particles. The articles impart ease-of-ironing, anti-wrinkling and conditioning benefits to fabrics while concurrently providing controlled release of desirable perfume odors.
