PURPOSE:A highly absorbable oxygen absorbent is prepared so that it is provided with nonabsorbing induction period of a desirable length of 0 to 50 hours, even in the presence of oxygen when raw material is prepared. CONSTITUTION:A new oxygen absorbent is packed in sealed container together with food or like, effectively preventing the food or like from decay, decompostition, deterioration by absorbing oxygen in the container. Such oxygen absorbent consists of (a) iron, (b) sodium silicate hydrate, (d) at least one of filler selected from the group consisting of calcium sulfate, acid clay, kieselguhr, and zeolite. The absorbent may contain (c) metal halogenide. The active carbon is used 0.001 to 10 parts by weight per one part by weight of iron. |
