The family of vehicle seat belt buckles each has two plate members (12, 14) defining a socket between them for releasably receiving a flat tongue (1). A latch member (24) is movable from latching engagement with the tongue by a push button (31) slidable against a return spring (38) within a cover (30) around the socket, and is held clear of the tongue until this re-enters the socket. In a first buckle, a slot and groove connection (28, 40) links the button and latch member and a catch (42, 45) holds the button in the release position until freed by an ejector (46) engaged by the tongue on re-entry. In a modification, an anti-latching member interposed between the latch member and the socket is removed by an ejector after a certain initial movement. |
