PURPOSE:To provide a permanent magnet material which has a high coercive force, by adding at least one of Al, Si, Mg, Ge and P to an Sm-Co-Fe-Zr alloy made of chiefly a single phase to facilitate the pulverization of the alloy and improve its coercive force. CONSTITUTION:At least one of Al, Si, Mg, Ge and P is added by 0.05 to 2% by weight to a magnetic alloy containing a rare earth element and having such a composition that at least 90% by volume of an ingot made of the magnetic alloy is changed into a single phase of Sm2(Co, Cu, Fe, Zn)17 by heat treatment. The permanent magnet material is thus manufactured. The preferably composition of the material is 20 to 24% by weight of Sm, 5 to 10% by weight of Cu, 12.8 to 18% by weight of Fe, 0.5 to 2.5% by weight of Zr, 0.05 to 2% by weight of M (M denotes at least one Al, Si, Mg, Ge and P) and the rest of Co. When the permanent magnet material is shaped with a binder, the preferably quantity of the binder is 10 to 35% by volume. |
