The toothpick has a cylindrical shaft tapering to a point at one end and at the other, the shaft is flattened. This flat section is sharpened to a point and bent over at right angles to the axis of the shaft. The centre of the shaft is twisted to facilitate the gripping and manoeuvring of the toothpick. It may be made of a variety of materials ranging from wood, or plastics to precious metals.
