The cages used for rearing eg rabbits h ave small nests fixed to the outside of the main chamber and communicating with them via circular apertures. Several chambers communicate with one another but the male rabbit of the group is prevented from entering the maternity chamber by a collar around his tail which is bigger than the connecting aperture. The cages have other apertures in their outer walls for the provision of food and water holders. The nests are configured, as far as possible, to the shape of a natural nest and may have a transparent viewing panel.
