Removing titaniferous incrustations from heat exchangers or reactors - by treatment with aq. liquor comprising hexa:fluosilicic acid and hydrofluoric acid

The walls of heat exchangers which are covered with encrustations of titaniferous material (formed during the attach of ores) are cleared by treatment with an aq. liquor comprising 3-30 wt.% hexafluosilicic acid and is not >10 wt.% Hf. Specifically, the H2SiF6 is applied alone to the encrustations and Hf is added to the H2SiF6 as the encrustations dissolve, to continuously rgnerate H2SiF6. Process is fast and effective, 80-100% of the scale being removed.
