The mud flap (c) (e) for cars and trailers, is rigid and fixed horizontally inside the ends of mudguards (d). The greater part of the mud projected on the mudguard by the wheel is stopped by these rigid horizontal flaps. The mud is then directed to the ground, away from the wheel by a side slope made in the mud flap. The mud flap is fixed below the level of the axle to prevent contact with the tyre should the floor or mudguard be lowered due to the vehicle load.
