Data transfer system for entering variables to processor - uses digital control with analogue communication between couplers receiving input variables

The programmable system comprises a processing unit, memories and couplers. These are connected together by a digital data bus, while the couplers are also connected together by an analogue bus. Each coupler communicates with the processing unit through the digital bus, and with the outside or other coulers through the analogue bus. The processing unit sends read and write signals to the couplers through the digital bus. The analogue is controlled by the processing unit through a multiplexing unit receiving digital control signals on the digital bus. The system is used for the processing of input variables which may be continuous or discontinuous in the mathematical sense. These are picked up and supplied to peripheral couplers. Although described for electronic systems it is also applicable to pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
