Water-soluble water-colours contains soluble dyestuffs and also (i) >=2 PVA components having different acetate contents, as binder, and (ii) quat. ammonium cpds. as plasticisers. The colours can be applied to a non-absorbent substrate and peeled off, after drying, as a sealed film, free from substrate, and used. The use of several PVA components yields a paint which adheres to substrate even when painted on in an oblique or vertical position. Soln. storage stability, film properties and paint spread and flow are improved. The quat. ammonium salt also enables the removal of the dried work, without damage.
