Electromagnetic stirrer for molten metal in continuous casting plant - where magnet cores and coils can be adjusted radially to suit shape and size of cast billet

The semisolid cast billet is surrounded by a magnet yoke made of one or more parts. In the yoke are several electromagnet cores which can be continuously adjusted in a radial direction w.r.t. the longitudinal axis of the billet; and each core is fitted with an electromagnet coil which can also be continuously adjusted in the radial direction. The coils are each fed with alternating current to induce an electromagnetic stirring field in the molten metal. Each coil can be adjusted radially w.r.t. its core; and/or each coil and core can be interchanged in the yoke. The coils may be employed around all or part of the periphery of the cross-section of the billet.
