The engine has the oil storage space (27) linked to a (conventional) sump (23) by one or more pipes (33), pref. curved, through the crank-case near the bottom, terminating at the desired oil level in the sump. The pipes are internally partitioned to permit simultaneous oil flow down, gas escape up. A vent (37) from the top of the storage space and an opening (39) through the base of the cylinder head allow escaping gas to be drawn into the inlet manifold (4).
