Moulding and core sand

The moulding and core sand based on casting sand contains a binder from polyvinyl acetate and/or polymethyl methacrylate and/or polyethylene and/or cellulose and/or cellulose derivatives in an amount of 0.1 - 10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of sand. It further contains an organic solvent and may additionally contain an alkali metal silicate (waterglass) and/or absorptively and/or adsorptively acting agents having a large specific surface area. From said moulding and core sand the solvent can be removed with a non-toxic gas by creating a pressure difference. The sand is suitable in particular for producing cores which are used for the casting of cast iron.
