<p>PVA is removed from waste waters by irradiation with energy-rich radiation, e.g. gamma- and electron radiation. Ratiation dosage may be 0.5-10 (0.75-2) x 104 J/kg. waste water to remove PVA in 0.005-20 (0.05-5) wt. % concn. Irradiation is continued until solid PVA is pptd. and can be filtered off. PVA pptn. by radiation is increased by adding an inorganic salt before or during irradiation, whereby radiation dosage can be decreased. The process is used for purifying waste water obtd. in desizing textiles sized with PVA. Elimination is >50% and can reach 100%. High elimination proportions can be achieved with the addn. of only 1 inorganic salt, e.g. Na2SO4.</p> |
