The system for making a cavity for a dental implant uses a boring tool with a tapered cutting head with a helical groove along it forming the cutting edge and with a rounded tip. This is used with a guide and steadying device consiting of a plate with an open sided slot through it, connected to a handle. Viewed from the open side, this slot is tapered and its width matches the diameter of the spindle of the boring tool, to control the degree of swing of the tool. This degree of swing is selected to suit the type of implant, and the top of the groove carries a set of indicating marks as a guide. The plate is curved, corresponding to the curvature of the jaw.
