Prodn. of diamino-s-triazines of formula (I) is claimed: (where X is Cl, MeO, MeS or EtS and R is 2-4C alkyl). The process comprises (a) grinding or kneading anhydrous cyanuric chloride (II) with an organophilic inorganic and/or organic gelling agent swollen with an organic solvent; (b) reacting the product with 2 molar equivs. of RNH2 in the presence of H2O and an acid binder; and opt. (c) reacting the resulting cpd. (I; X = Cl) with MeOH, MeSH or EtSH. The process avoids the waste water disposal problems associated with the use of organic solvents (cf. DT1695117) avoids premature hydrolysis of (II), and gives a readily dispersible product which can be used directly for formulating herbicides.
