<p>Sulphur deposits in plant used to remove H2S, CO2, COS, etc. from gas mixts., are prevented by previous contact with a material which quatitatively removes traces of O2 by reaction with H2S. Used for treatment of synthesis gas mixt., esp. from coal gasification, before solvent washing, e.g. with methanol. Blockages in the washing plant, which require frequent stoppages for cleaning are prevented, the sulphur being deposited where it does no harm. The need for addn. of HCN or its salts to the solvent wash to prevent S deposition, which requires great care and suspension, is avoided. Corrosion by HNO3 produced by oxidn. of NO2 is also prevented.</p> |
