Plywood sound board for keyboard instrument - includes additional stage for damping to improve localisation of generated notes

The resonance bed of an harpsichord is designed to include a compensating stage to improve the tonal quality, and is made of plywood. The bed is pref. made from three bonded layers of mahogany (12). On the top side are mounted two distance pieces (14, 16) for the strings. The underside has a number of projecting strips (18) that provide for location of the generated standing waves. Sound quality is improved by a compensating element (20) that provided an attenuating function. Additional strips are locked by a clamping piece at the ends of a hypotenuse of the string's which cross the resonance bed.
