The collapsible step-ladder converts into a chair, having a cantilevering seat (12) and a top step (10) which pivots to function as a backrest. Support is provided by two 'U' shaped bars (2, 3) connected by axle pins (4) through the tops of the legs, one bar incorporating the steps and the other the seat. The bottom step (8) is positioned below and behind the seat, and the tread (11) of the top step is formed by the rear face of the back rest. The rear of the seat may be pinned (14) to the inner ledge of an intermediate step (9), transverse grooves on the underside of the seat engaging a transverse bar (15) to provide alternative leg settings.
