Rotating heavy workpieces during forging - via chain driven by gearbox suspended from crane hook and possessing spring mountings absorbing shock loads

Traverse with a centrl hole for the crane hook is fitted with four long bolts extending downwards into a housing and with long compression springs so the traverse can move vertically w.r.t. the housing against the pressure of the springs. In the housing is a motor using a gearbox to drive a gear ring fitted on a shaft on which a chain sprocket is fixed; and the sprocket is used to rotate a chain which holds one end of a large workpiece while the other end is forged; the chain rotates the workpiece when the forging press is open. Bolts pref. form an axial guide for the traverse. Overloading of the chain both the vertical direction and in the direction of rotation is prevented.
