摘要 <p>An equalizer has N resistor-reactor stages each producing one of N bumps, each bump adjustable in amplitude, and also in center frequency (the frequency at which the extremeamplitude point of the bump lies). Each bump's center frequency is shiftable within a respective one of N successive limited frequency ranges, each defined by a minimum and maximum end frequency with a middle frequency midway therebetween. With any two adjoining bumps adjusted such that their center frequencies lie at their middle frequencies, the center frequency of one bump can be shifted towards the middle frequency of the other by a distance at least equal to one half the distance from the middle frequency of the one bump to the middle frequency of the other. With any two adjoining bumps set to equal amplitude, no matter what value, their adjoining flanks overlap and intersect at a point at least 0.6 of the way up their equal amplitudes. The N middle frequencies (which are fixed), contrasted to the N center frequencies (which are adjustable), are substantially equidistantly spaced along an unprecedented normalized-frequency axis the constituent sections of which have been expanded and compressed in correspondence to a new mathematical function, the density-of-detail distribution function, d*, wherein , k being a simple proportionality constant, and q being normalized frequency (f/fmax).</p>
