High density lipoprotein cholesterol assay

A reagent composition useful in assays for high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol comprises heparin and a salt of a divalent metal cation such as MnCl2 dispersed in an inert filler comprising a polysaccharide, a terminal interlocking linear glucose polymer and a vinylpyrrolidone. The cholesterol containing serum sample acts as the milieu of the reaction as well as the solvent for the reagent composition itself.
