In an eddy-current speedometer, an electric motor 7 rotates magnet 4 which drags a cup 3 to which is attached a spindle 2 carrying a speed- indicating needle. The motor also drives odometer wheels 13 by way of orthogonal shafts 14 (and 15). The invention concerns the assembly of the instrument from a housing 17, a support plate 27, a shield 10 and a frame 12. The support plate 27, which presses the motor 7 against resilient tongues 20 in the base of the housing 17, has diametrically opposite tongues 43 which engage over locating pins 25 on lugs 24 of housing 17, and similarly the parts 10 and 12 have tongues 11 and 12a.
