A cable winding mechanism, for example forming part of a hoisting device travelling along an overhead track 23, comprises an elongate support in the form of a girder 1 and a winding drum 2 parallel to the girder and having two cable-receiving grooves (not shown) of opposite pitch directions. At one end of the girder 1 there is a gearing 7 located transversely of the girder, which gearing transmits driving torque from an electric motor 8 to the winding drum 2. The gearing 7 is rotatably connected to the girder 1 and rotates relative thereto, in opposition to a torque exerted by a spring 17, in the event of an overload and then influences a circuit-breaker (not shown) which interrupts the current supply to the motor 8. The winding drum 2 has a cable 34 secured thereto for raising and lowering a hook 33 via a pulley block 26, the cable falls 3 and 4 being received in the aforementioned grooves of the winding drum. <IMAGE> |
