Prepn. of emulsions comprises passing a mixt. of fluids between surfaces sepd. from one another by small gaps. An appts. comprises a stack of thin sheets sepd. by equal gaps with an inlet for a mixt. of fluids on one side and an outlet for the emulsion on the opposite side. The invention provides a simple and efficient means of realising emulsions partic. emulsions of a liq. in another liq., e.g. oil or hydrocarbons in water in 'soluble' oils or in preparing combustible mixtures.
