Hydroconversion of hydrocarbon feeds is carried out using a catalyst comprising a metal deposited on a porous inorganic gel support. The gel is produced by (a) dispersing primary solid particles of the support material in a liq. medium to form a sol. contg. colloidal aggregates of the primary particles, (b) drying the sol. to form a porous gel, and (c) calcining the gel. The process is esp. applicable to reforming, but can also be applied to hydroisomerisation, dehydrocyclisation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulphurisation or selective hydrogenation. Exemplified reforming catalysts have better selectivity for aromatics than commercial catalysts.
|
