The cigarette testing device which may be one of several in a testing machine includes a cylindrical body with a vertical axial hole of a suitable size to receive a cigarette. A cigarette is dropped into the top of the cylinder and held by a sealing ring. Air is drawn through the cigarette via an outlet (11) in the side of the cylinder in order to determine the resistance it offers to this flow of air. After testing the cigarette may be allowed to fall out of the cylinder under the effect of gravity.
