An input-output interface for measuring stations allows transmissions to and from a central station to occur as multi bit parallel words or as analogue signals. All stations are coupled to a communication bus over signal conditioning stages. Input or output can be provided by an analogue to digital converter or digital to analogue stages. Identification of a measured parameter is provided by a multi bit address, together with a location word. All digital communication is executed in BCD format.
